Artist Statement
I have been a practicing artist for the past 30 years since graduating from Glasgow School of Art in 1990. Widely exhibited in the Paisley Art Institute, Glasgow Art Club and the Lillie Art Gallery, I am a member of the Glasgow Society of Women Artists and Visual Arts Scotland.
Drawing is enormously important to me and underpins my work. I love using colour, and especially enjoy contrasting tones to create drama and contrast.
In 2021 I received a grant from Creative Scotland to develop my work and have enjoyed working outdoors, drawing on street corners, to capture the life of Glasgow. During lockdown I began exploring the city - the tenements, the river Clyde and the built environment. Light and reflections on the large windows on Victorian buildings, together with the colour and craftsmanship of soft sandstone architecture fascinated me.
